World Number 18 WAYNE WILLGRESS and World Number 20 PERRY MARTIN have tested positive for Corona-virus and are no longer involved in the World Indoor Bowls Championships.
All players and officials were tested prior to today’s quarter finals as part of strict protocols surrounding the event and it was discovered that both players had returned Positive results. Both players were in their own ‘bubble’ group and were due to play against each other in the Quarter Finals this afternoon and therefore have now been withdrawn. The winner of their match would have progressed to play 2018 holder Mark Dawes in tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) semi-final.
Dawes therefore receives a direct place in Sunday’s final. WBT Board of Directors confirmed the positive tests saying “WBT is following extensive Covid-19 guidelines in a ‘bubble’ environment at this event.
Both Wayne and Perry were allotted the same bubble.
